Anal fistulas are infrequent openings that appear between the anus and the skin near the bottom. These abnormal connections often occur from complicating medical situations, such as fistulizing inflammatory bowel disease or infections. Symptoms can present pain, discomfort, leaking from the fistula opening, and pressure sensation in the anal area.
